A few posts back I mentioned my depleted thrifting mojo but I don't think I ever said where all that mojo went. Because I do really believe in that, you know. I think some things out there are meant for a certain person at a certain time and the universe tries to help putting the two together. Call me crazy, but things have happened in the twenty years I have been shopping second-hand--*freaky things*--and so I am a believer. But anyway...
Picture J and I at our local Habitat for Humanity Thrift store, at the counter, paying for our trifles. It's a Monday, in fact the Monday after the Friday when we learned we were having a girl. We're at the counter, chatting with the volunteers ( my older brother works for Habitat and is the darling of *all* of the older ladies who volunteer there) when all of a sudden, something amazing rolls in on a dolly. Something so great, so perfect that I can almost not believe I am looking at it. Something exactly like this:
Wha??? An unfinished handmade dollhouse?? Are you kidding me? J and I make a beeline over to where it has now been deposited without ceremony. I am holding my breath because I am so nervous that it won't live up to my hopes--it will be flimsy or moldy or too expensive (hard to justify during the pre-new baby budget slashing.) But no!! It is perfect--well made, sturdy and get this...only $15. Again, I must say, are you kidding me here?
So, of course we bought it and here it is in all of it's glory, in my basement. Next to it is some paint--french blue for the walls, red for the roof and cream for the trim. Since this pic was taken I have started applying said paint, so look for more in progress shots soon. I am so excited about this project. Of course my first instinct was to keep all of it's goodness for myself--why share it with these pesky kids, always getting grubby fingerprints on everything?? But then I thought "Bad Mommy!! Do this one for them and later on do another for yourself." Plenty of time to pile up more mojo for that find.
