I really really love tools. I am a whole hearted subscriber to the "right tool for the job" school of thought. Having something that works well and helps my creations move to the next level of craftsmanship fills me with an odd joy and a definite sense of satisfaction.
That being said, there have been times in the past when a tool that showed promise has let me down, disappointed me. Sometimes the claims of ease are just that: claims or the tool itself is shoddy and unworkable. So, though I love to buy new tools, I am a bit wary.
Awhile back, I was starting to get really sick of sewing in snaps in all these wallets I was making. After a little investigation, I happened upon a post on craftster extolling the virtues of a certain snap setting tool. Now, I have tried several different snap setters before this one and they never work the way I would like them to: often they mangle the fabric or are not sturdy.
I purchased this snapsetter and some snaps to go with it and yesterday I finally tried it out.
It comes in five sizes ( I purchased the size 16 because three of the other sizes use that as a base for an attachment. I figured it was the standard.)
The directions were easy to understand once I figured out which part of the snap was which.
You basically sandwich fabric between two snap parts and the tool and then hit the tool with a hammer several times until the snap is fastened.
This is an action shot! minus the hammer, which I only belatedly realized I should have included.
I am quite smitten with the final product: really well made snaps securely fastened to our duvet cover (which was losing a few of it's sewn on snaps due to frequent laundering.)
In conclusion, I would say that this product is a *snap* to use but I just couldn't handle all the groans of a bad pun so I will say instead that I highly recommend this product and that it gives me that special glow that only the right tool can.
