When we visit Charleston, Mom and I make a point of visiting People, Places and Quilts a fantastic fabric store. Somehow, being out of town always makes me feel like I should blow the fabric budget and PPQ is a great place to do it. Here's what I got this year:
Many of you will recognize lots of the new Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I had checked them out on the net and wasn't blown away but when I saw them in person--whoa,stand back!! In fact I had scooped up several bolts before I even realized that they were the DS fabrics. I also got that bubbly Kaffe Fassett--I love that pattern in every color, truly. And then some luscious brown/white polka dots and a black and white check for when I am feeling MacKenzie Childs-esque. I bought more big florals than I usually do--the colors just seemed right to me and I think that they look good as aprons.
On a related note, I noticed yesterday when I was reading whip-up that there was a side note that Amy Butler does not permit her fabric to be used in handmade items that are for sale. This took me by surprise--can this really be legal? Can you really copyright so extensively that I cannot use this product for the purpose it was intended if I might ever profit from said purpose? That seemed a stretch to me. This morning I checked in with craftster, figuring that there would be more discussion there, and of course there was. Evidently a crafter (sorry I forgot the user name) actually received a cease and desist letter from Amy Butler's organization. Can you believe? This crafter and others then started threads on Etsy and craftster and the *next* day she received a much nicer message saying that Amy had decided to *change* her policies so that individual crafters who buy their fabric retail can use her fabric in their creations. Interesting to say the least--it shows the power not only of the internet but the craft community--go us!!
