The things I am most thankful for this year are my husband and my healthy baby. And I am thankful to have the desire to make things and a little available time to fulfill that desire.
I am perhaps less than thankful about the prospect of the 1200+ miles that my husband, my healthy baby and I will be travelling in the next five days. But I have a plan: I am going to do something to tangibly remind myself how good I have it. I am going to crochet premie caps for this initiative : Caps to the Capital.
I made one last night while watching gilmore girls and veronica mars. It is so tiny. Good practice for me and I think this campaign sponsored by Save the Children is pretty cool. The idea of crafters knitting and crocheting caps for premies and newborns in developing countries evidently came from a suggestion in the organization's latest report on the state of the world's mothers. The report showed that something as simple as a warm head can really make the difference between life and death when you are that small. I don't know about you, but the thought of a tiny baby with a cold head makes me feel all teary and awful.
So, that's what I am doing to give thanks this year.
That, and also eating a lot.
Happy Thanksgiving.
